Doctoral, Ph.D. Program
Graduation Requirements for This Program:
For students admitted with a Master’s degree with thesis, graduation requires the successful completion of at least seven courses, a seminar, qualifying examination, thesis proposal, and doctoral dissertation, totaling a minimum of 240 ECTS credits, provided that they complete at least 21 local credits and not less than 60 ECTS credits per academic semester.
For students admitted with an undergraduate degree, graduation requires the successful completion of at least fourteen courses amounting to a minimum of 42 local credits, in addition to a seminar, qualifying examination, thesis proposal, and doctoral dissertation, for a total of no less than 300 ECTS credits.
A student who successfully passes the doctoral qualifying examination must, within six months, defend their thesis proposal—which includes the purpose, methodology, and work plan of the intended dissertation—orally before the thesis monitoring committee, in the language of instruction of the registered program.
The seminar course and the thesis work are non-credit courses and are evaluated on a pass/fail basis. Students are required to obtain a passing grade in both.
For the doctoral thesis to be concluded, the student must submit at least three thesis monitoring committee reports.
The maximum duration for the completion of required credit courses is four semesters for students admitted with a master's degree with thesis, and six semesters for those admitted with an undergraduate degree.
During the semesters in which the student conducts thesis work, they must register for the thesis course and successfully defend the thesis both orally and in writing before the jury.
M.Sc. program with thesis:
In order to graduate from this program, the students must complete a minimum of 122 ECTS credits and the following:

Pre-thesis seminar (ME 591) and thesis (ME 592, ME 593) courses)
At most two of the elective courses can be selected from senior Mechanical Engineering courses (ME 4XX) or from 5XX courses of other graduate programs (with the approval of the advisor). At least three of the elective courses must be selected from ME 5XX courses.
